Independent Rains And Dhan Te Nan :-)

I dont know why but somehow it rains for me on each and every Independence day. Somehow i manage to get some drops on my face on every 15th august. Last year it rained. And this time, after full week of sunlight, all of a sudden clouds came upon the sky. I felt it would rain again. Naa. But while going for flag hoisting ceremony to college, i some how got 3-4 drops on my face. And i was not under illusion. I bet i was not. It was real. Rain Drops. :-) It has become a kind of habit for me to have this experience every 15th aug. Otherwise i dont feel normal. BTW HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY. :-)

Watching a FUPERB MOVIE. DHAN TE NAN

2 months back, i had seen two of Guy ritchie's most acclaimed films:- 1.Snatch and 2.Lock,stock and two smoking barrels. They were awesome movies representing a unique genre of their own. Yesterday when i watched Kaminey, i had never expected i would
get to see something on the lines of movies mentioned above. Kaminey is so different from the normal hindi movies u get to see. Now let me clarify first that the story is ordinary, so dont think in that sense. But wat works is the execution, the way movie plays out. Its alltogether new in each and every sense.

The movie sets a new precedent in dark movies. Vishal bharadwaj, for me, deserves all the praises. He directed, wrote, sang and was also the music director( wonderful music. very rarely do i say this for any non rahman album). But the best thing were his dialogues. Those punchy dialogues were so soothing to ears. Ahh he did so many things and was master in all of them.

Talking abt music, i never get Guljar's lyrics. I mean i dont get them. Thats wat i used to feel earlier. And i still feel the same. ;-) I cant get the hidden meaning of those lyrics but i loved them this time. And my favourite line from song "pehle baar mohabbat ki hai" is

" yaad hain peepal ke jiske ghane saaye the
hamne gilhari ke jhoothe matar khae the"

Ha ha ha. wat was that. but i love these lines the most. Hats off to him. I havent yet reached his level of intelligence. One thing that i loved the most was acting. Its best ensemble of actors i have seen in recent times. My nature is that i have always rooted for side actors. Somehow i m always biased for them. So due credit to shahid, priyanka for their awesome acting, but for me the side actors took the cake. I loved all of them (Lele, lobo, tashi, mikhail) . And particularly my hero was Amole Gupte who played Bhope bhau in the movie. Wat an acting by him. Completely AWESOME. My favourite scenes in the movie were:-

1. When Bhope Bhau shouts to his sidekicks(after slapping one of them)- "Bhau nahi toh sab carrom khelte hon. BHAU, BHAU, BHAU".

2. Tashi to Bhope(though tashi is meeting bhope for first time, he speaks as if they know each other for long)- "Bhope, topein (showing them) toh hamare pass bhi hain. Aaram se baith".

Its scenes like these that make the movie memorable. I wish these scenes had longer duration but that was not. If i go by movie, i would have given 3/5 but just bcos of marvellous acting i give it 4/5.(I m not trying to be a critic, i just gave stars to emphasize the acting part ;-) ) So go for it. ITF A FANTAFTIC MOVIE.

Things to miss when I leave Ahmedabad

Many of my friends have left ahmedabad for future education to other cities in India or to the US. Seeing them leave, i get reminded of the fact that sooner or later, i also will have to follow the suit. I grow nostalgic just by the mere thought of leaving Ahmedabad. Following is the list of things that i will miss the most when i leave Ahmedabad.

1. Navratri and Uttarayan
The two festivals that are so eagerly awaited everytimeare the life of festivals of Ahmedabad. Particularly navratri, where we friends, knowing that we dont have dancing skills, dance like anything bcos many along with us suffer from the same problem. The whole aspiration of dancing takes a fruitful result during those 9 days. Songs like sanedo and many more, when heard, look so great compared to today's hindi songs. I still remember i played in dandia with my mineral water bottle instead of dandia. :-D And after that at 3 am we rush off to a restaurant to eat something. wat a life.

2. Traffic
Amdavadi traffic is best to nourish an upcoming learner. We amdavadis tend to have allegience towards delhi traffic rather than the mumbai one. I just cant believe how the hell in mumbai, they always have their vehicles maintaining a certain distance among themselves(atleast 2 feets and i do respect that). Nah, it doesnt work here. We love each other so much that we dont even leave an inch and stick our vehicles to each other. And do see the moment when the traffic light is about to turn green. All the wannabe schumachers(including yours truly) gear up for the race. And then we swing our vehicles like anything as if a wind is moving all of us.

3. Gujarati language
Mujhe yeh nahi faata(comfortable) hain.
jalse pad gae(we had fun).
Daav ho gaya yaar.(this one is my favourite which means we have a problem)
There are so many gujarati words which add a new dimension,a new feel to these sentences. When u live in ahmedabad, u cant get rid of using these words. And also the habit of adding "-iya" as suffix to everyone's name to show our love. E.g. Shaivaliya ( already there is so much torture on my name ;-) )

4. Sitting idle at college parking
In college, u dont attend lectures. So we used to have our discussion sessions at parking area where we have discussed anything and everything of each and every topic. There used to be no pressure of attending lectures and so our topics were discussed with even more interest. We have condemned and praised each and every policy of politicians, discussed future trouble of Indian cricket, the treachery of chappel, buchanan and so many things. After completing each session, i used to feel so great as if we r some big intellectuals and our such discussion lead to some benefit.

5. Cheap movies
Any day(including the holidays) Morning show. Price- Rs 40 Feeling- Jalsa padi gaya ;-)
Even if its a bad movie, except the fact its himesh's or aag, it doesnt make us feel betrayed. COmpared to other cities where charges are around 150 bucks, ahmedabad is heaven of movie buffs.

6. Great food places
U name it and there are each and every variety of restaurant here. And even those restaurants are so many that u may get something new to discover. And how can i forget gujarati food. I m in love with gathiya, fafda and shreekhand. Dont know how i will live with out them.

7. Soul
Last and the most IMPORTANT thing. Its the SOUL of ahmedabad i will miss the most. The place where u can roam freely at night at even 3(although u shud not do it just for fun), where people are so friendly, where there is something in air that despite facing earthquake, riots, we all r still the same and infact we r developing faster. I just cant express but i feel a belonging to this place.

Ultimately, M PROUD TO BE AN AMDAVADI. Its my hometown and no matter wat happens, it will be the closest city to my heart ever.
